Guardianship
Sometimes people with disabilities need assistance with their decision-making. LSS can support people with those decisions by becoming their guardians. Guardianship is the legal proceeding where the court appoints a representative from LSS to act as the guardian of the estate and/or the person.
A guardian makes legal, financial and medical decisions that are in the best interest of the individual. The guardian of the estate is accountable for all property and assets of the person to ensure they are used in a prudent way for the individual to live a quality life. The guardian of the person ensures the individual is living in the most appropriate least restrictive home, has food and clothing, has their medical needs met, and is treated with dignity in their life.
LSS provides this service throughout Wisconsin and Upper Michigan. For more information on how LSS can help, and for locations please call 1-877-967-5577.
