New Urban Threads Clothing Distribution Center Opens

The new Urban Threads Clothing Distribution center opened this May in Appleton, Wis.  It is an expansion of the clothing distribution program in Milwaukee that has operated for over five years. Urban Threads offers new, name brand clothing to those in need through a partnership with CorpCare, a non-profit that receives clothing from Kohl's, Gap, Land's End and other stores and distributes them to organizations in Wisconsin.  Zion Lutheran has generously donated space for this ministry in their Parish House adjacent to the church.  There, Urban Threads will operate in partnership with the LEAVEN satellite office housed at Zion.  Additionally, the Appleton Conference awarded a $2,500 grant to help cover start-up costs for the new clothing distribution center. Urban Ministries plans to start a mobile clothing unit in the future, to bring clothes to clients and to outlying areas.

In addition to the partnerships with Zion Lutheran Church and the Appleton Conference, Urban Ministries is excited about a new partnership with Scheels Sports in Appleton and Kohl's Department store in the Fox Valley. Scheels has generously donated $800 worth of new clothing and an additional large supply of socks. They have also provided clothing racks for the new location. Kohl's is providing volunteers, a monetary donation of $1000 and many supplies to get the space ready for hanging clothes. Both stores have been wonderful partners. These donations have been essential in the start up for the Fox Valley area and will allow many people in the area to get new clothing.

Columbia Sportswear recently donated $50,000 worth of clothing, further assisting the Urban Threads locations. This donation will provide 120 boxes of clothing and backpacks for men, women and children.
